Biography
Mark Moody is Global Head of our Asset Finance team, based in the London office. Mark focuses on transportation finance with a particular emphasis on the aviation industry. He has extensive experience in cross-border aircraft financings involving operating lease financings, finance leases, tax-based leasing structures (including JOLCOs), capital markets structures (including ABS structures), debt restructurings, Islamic financings, sale and leaseback structures and export credit supported financings. In addition, Mark has been heavily involved in the sale and purchase of substantial aircraft portfolios, the establishment of new aircraft leasing platforms as well as advising on airline restructurings, bankruptcies and aircraft redelivery disputes.
His representative clients include financial institutions, export credit agencies, operating lessors, airlines, and equity investors in the aviation industry.
In addition to London, Mark has also practiced law in Frankfurt, Paris and Singapore where he focused on asset finance transactions throughout Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.
Mark is recommended by The Legal 500 where clients describe him as "the stand out individual" and Chambers, which states that he is "a master in his field", "extremely knowledgeable" with a "great eye for detail" and "proactive in looking after the client at all stages of a deal."
Experience
Mark has acted on major aviation finance and leasing matters, including for:
- a Qatari based lessor on the redevelopment of Damascus International Airport and the acquisition, financing and leasing of several Airbus A320 aircraft in order to re-fleet Syrian Airlines;
- a Saudi Arabian investment manager on a joint venture with a Middle Eastern lessor to establish a dedicated aviation leasing platform to acquire a portfolio of ten (10) Airbus A320neo aircraft on lease to KSA based airlines including the associated Sharia compliant secured financing of such aircraft;
- an operating lessor in respect of its combined US$2.5 billion conventional and commodity Murabaha financing facilities;
- a UAE based airline in the JOLCO financings of several Airbus A350 aircraft;
- the European ECAs on the restructuring of the financing and leasing of twenty (20) Airbus A320 aircraft for LATAM Airlines following its exit from Chapter 11;
- an operating lessor in connection with the ECA refinancing of several Airbus A321 aircraft on lease to a Latin American airline;
- various operating lessors in the sale and purchase of substantial portfolios of Airbus, Boeing and Embraer aircraft on lease to numerous airlines;
- an operating lessor in the ongoing management and disposition of an ABS portfolio of twenty-four (24) Airbus A320 and Boeing 737 aircraft;
- a Latin American based airline on the PDP financing in respect of ten (10) Airbus A321XLR aircraft; and
- a leading aviation lender in the financing of several Airbus A320 NEO aircraft for an operating lessor and leased to a U.S. airline.
