Overview

Melody Chan is the Office Executive Partner of the Hong Kong office and the Head of Greater China Disputes of the Firm. Her practice focuses on cross-border arbitration and multijurisdictional litigation. She advises on disputes in the financial services, oil and gas, and power and technology sectors, as well as on matters in connection with joint ventures and insolvency proceedings. She also handles contentious and non-contentious regulatory and employment matters.

Representing a US-based data centre developer in Hong Kong High Court proceedings brought under a confidentiality agreement in connection with a €750 million project in Europe.

Representation of an Asia based investment fund house in a cross-border high-value enforcement matter.

Advising a blockchain-enabled platform in connection with disputes relating to token holders.

Representation of major Chinese lenders in connection with a payment default under certain existing facility agreements, including advising on an insolvency application and restructuring of the existing indebtedness of an India-based mobile network provider, as well as an English court proceeding against a guarantor of the loans.

Representing a Chinese manufacturer in contesting various enforcement actions arising out of multiple loan transactions with guarantees and securities granted in Hong Kong, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand etc.

Advising one of PRC largest electronic goods retailers in a potential HKIAC arbitration arising out of a dispute on a put and call option agreement relating to an acquisition in Italy.

Representation of a multinational steel trading company in relation to disputes worth more than US$300 million at the London International Court of Arbitration.

Representation of a major paper product supplier listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange on corporate issues and issues involving competition law in Hong Kong, sales and distribution, etc.

Advising, together with local counsel, a Chinese corporate in relation to an investigation carried out by the relevant Chinese authority under the Anti-Monopoly law in China.

Representation of a social media giant seeking injunctive relief and damages for unlawful interference and harassment arising from unauthorized, illegitimate and wrongful use of its website and system by Hong Kong-based online game company.

Advising a US based global online travel agency on different aspects of employment law, including issues relating to discrimination, outsourcing policy, maternity leave and internship.
