Biography
Dr. Michael-Alexander Volks is a Local Partner in the Energy, Infrastructure, Project and Asset Finance Practice in Hamburg. He advises lenders, sponsors, lessors and other stakeholders on domestic and cross-border asset finance, project finance and leasing transactions.
Michael's practice focuses on the financing of energy and infrastructure projects as well as rolling stock, aircraft and ships. He regularly advises on transactions involving export credit agency-backed financing and other structured financing solutions.
Before joining White & Case, Michael worked at leading international professional services and law firms. In these roles, he advised the German government on export credit agency-backed financings and acted for lenders, sponsors and lessors in international project finance, asset finance and leasing transactions, with a particular focus on energy and infrastructure projects as well as rail, aircraft and ship financings. He was also seconded to the legal department of a major German bank, where he focused on international rail and ship financings.

Advising Standard Chartered and Crédit Agricole on its EUR 210 million financing for VIRTUS Data Centres' Marienpark Data Centre Campus in Berlin, Germany.
ju:niz Energy GmbH*
Advising ju:niz Energy GmbH on the financing of a portfolio of three large battery energy storage systems (BESS) in Germany by Hamburg Commercial Bank AG (HCOB); having a total storage capacity of approximately 100 MWh.
Terra One*
Advising Terra One on the financing of its 15 MW/30 MWh battery storage project in Oersdorf, Lower Saxony, Germany.
Consortium of banks*
Advising consortium of banks on the EUR 140m ECA-backed (including Euler Hermes) financing of a combined cycle power plant (gas and hsd) with a capacity of 420 MW in Bangladesh.
Norddeutsche Landesbank Girozentrale (NORD/LB) & Santander Corporate & Investment Banking (Santander CIB)*
Advising Norddeutsche Landesbank Girozentrale (NORD/LB) and Santander Corporate & Investment Banking (Santander CIB) on the EUR 90m financing of a 149 MWp solar power plant in Spain.
International consortium of 17 banks*
Advising international consortium of 17 banks in relation to EUR 2.6 billion financing of two cruise ships, backed by Euler Hermes and Finnvera guarantees and a German federal state guarantee as well as on the subsequent restructurings.
DVB Bank*
Advising DVB Bank in connection with the sale and transfer of its land transport business to Helaba.
KfW IPEX-Bank*
Advising KfW IPEX-Bank on the financing of 490 Daimler buses for Santiago de Chile's public transport system, in a transaction worth approximately US$100.5 million.
European Investment Bank (EIB)*
Advising the European Investment Bank (EIB) in connection with support for UniCredit Bank AG through a EUR 150 million first-loss guarantee, covered by the European Investment Fund and the pan-European Guarantee Fund.
German Government*
Advising the German Government acting through its ECA (Euler Hermes) on financings and leasing agreements in relation to various Airbus aircraft for Latin American airline groups, Middle Eastern and Asian carriers and international leasing companies, e.g. negotiating and settling of new financing and lease agreements as well as negotiating restructurings and extensions of multi-party (sub-)lease arrangements.
