Morvyn is an associate in the Firm's Banking group in London, focusing on complex financial restructurings and insolvencies.
Morvyn has extensive experience advising companies, insolvency practitioners, banks, investment funds and other financial institutions on cross-border restructurings, formal insolvencies and distressed debt investments. Morvyn also has experience in loan sale and purchase transactions, having worked with bidders and buyers on their diligence and acquisition of a number of non-performing loan portfolios.
In 2017, Morvyn spent eight months on secondment to the European Special Situations Group of Goldman Sachs in London, advising on restructuring, direct lending and corporate transactions.
Prior to joining the Firm in 2015, Morvyn was an associate in the Restructuring group of a full-service international law firm. Morvyn has also completed secondments to the Restructuring team at a major UK bank (in 2012 – 2013) and to the general counsel's office of Standard Life Aberdeen plc (in 2010 – 2011).
Representing the coordinating committee of senior secured lenders in the restructuring of one of the world's largest offshore drilling companies.
Advised certain investors in Novo Banco, the Portuguese bridge bank established as part of the resolution of the Portuguese bank Banco Espirito Santo (BES), on matters arising from the resolution of BES.
Advised the lenders in connection with the restructuring of a reserve based lending facility to a Nigerian energy company.
Advised Kaupthing, the failed Icelandic bank, on its restructuring, following its US$45 billion insolvency. Kaupthing's insolvency was the biggest and most high profile casualty of the Icelandic banking crisis and, globally, was the fifth largest corporate bankruptcy of all time. The successful restructuring was named "Cross Border Turnaround of the Year" at the Turnaround Atlas Awards 2016, "Global Finance Deal of the Year" at the American Lawyer Global Legal Awards 2016 and "Restructuring deal of the year" at the IFLR European Awards 2016, and helped the White & Case team to be named by IFLR as 2016 "Restructuring Team of the Year".
Advised Afren plc, a UK listed company with oil & gas assets in Africa on its proposed capital and financial restructuring. Prior to entering into administration in July 2015, the Afren transaction was expected to be the largest ever restructuring in the oil & gas sector.
Acted for a global private equity fund on its acquisition of loans to a Spanish renewables group.
Advised an FCA-regulated company on its restructuring by means of a company voluntary arrangement.
Advised a global private equity fund on its acquisition of a multi-billion pound commercial property loan portfolio from IBRC.
Advised Deloitte LLP as administrators of an international construction group.
