Biography

Rana is an Associate in White & Case's Dispute Resolution Group based in Dubai. She specializes in arbitration with a focus on commercial and investment disputes.

Rana advises clients through each phase of the dispute resolution process, from developing pre-dispute strategies to enforcing awards and judgments post-dispute.

She represents individuals, corporations, government entities and sovereign states in a wide range of arbitrations across various industries including infrastructure, energy, and technology.

In addition to her practice, Rana serves as the Middle East Regional Representative for the LCIA Young International Arbitration Group (YIAG) and as a National Representative of the IBA Young Lawyers' Committee.

Experience

Commercial Arbitration

  • Advising a UAE electricity and water services provider on potential claims arising under power and water purchase agreements (DIAC Rules).
  • Representing a global hotel operator in an arbitration against a hotel owner in relation to claims for the breach of the Operation and Management Agreement relating to a hotel located in Abu Dhabi (ArbitrateAD Rules).
  • Representing an oil & gas company operating in the MENA region against a drilling company in an arbitration in relation to a project for the exploration and exploitation of petroleum in Egypt (CRCICA Rules).*
  • Representing an oil & gas company operating in the MENA region in an arbitration relating to a major oil & gas concession in Egypt (LCIA Rules).*
  • Representing a major global software company in five different arbitrations against end-users in relation to claims for the breach of the respective cloud services agreements (LCIA Rules).*
  • Representing a major government-owned real estate development company in a US$ multi-billion dispute relating to a 47 million square foot development that forms part of a greater real estate development in Dubai (DIAC Rules).*
  • Representing a company that services and manufactures power sources and other equipment in the energy sector in a dispute regarding the breach of an Operation Management and Maintenance agreement (ICC Rules).*
  • Representing an oil & gas consortium in an arbitration in relation to a dispute with a West African state arising out of a contract for the exploration and exploitation of oil and gas (UNCITRAL Rules).*

Investor-State Arbitration

  • Representing a Belgian solar energy investor, against the Italian Republic in an arbitration relating to a series of governmental decrees to cut tariff incentives for several solar power projects (ICSID Rules).*
  • Representing the government of Oman in a dispute arising out of an engineering concession contract between an Omani state-owned entity and a Turkish investor (ICSID Rules).*
  • Representing the government of Egypt in relation to a claim brought by a global textile manufacturer against the Republic of Egypt (ICSID Rules).*
  • Advising Morocco in relation to a potential ICSID arbitration claim against it by an Egyptian real estate investor.*

Construction Arbitration

  • Representing a Dubai government authority in an arbitration pertaining to a project in connection with the construction of a pumping station and its rising mains (ad hoc rules).
  • Representing a construction company operating in the MENA region in Emergency Arbitration proceedings in connection with calls upon the performance and retention bonds of a major Abu Dhabi-based subcontractor (ICC Rules).*
  • Advising a UAE government authority, in its capacity as employer, in connection with contractor claims under a contract for the construction of a sewage pumping station and associated rising mains (ad hoc).*
  • Representing a construction company operating in the MENA region in an arbitration in connection with an oil and gas project in Abu Dhabi (ICC Rules).*
  • Representing a Saudi university in an arbitration against a subcontractor in relation to a project for the development of a campus in Riyadh (ICC Rules).*
