Biography
Tomonori Fernandez is an associate (not admitted in Japan) in our Corporate/M&A practice group based in Tokyo. He supports clients in a wide range of international corporate legal matters, including cross-border M&A transactions and investment funds.
Prior to joining White & Case, Tomonori practiced at other leading firms in Tokyo and Kuala Lumpur.
Experience
Hitachi, as lead counsel in its pending (2026) sale of its global home appliances business (including Hitachi's Japan appliances business and 100% of Hitachi's global appliances joint venture with Turkey's Arcelik) to an entity controlled by Nojima.*
NEC, in its US$2.9 billion acquisition of Nasdaq-listed CSG Systems. Finalist, "M&A Deal of the Year (Premium)", ALB Japan Law Awards 2026.*
Hitachi, in its multi-billion dollar air conditioning joint venture restructuring with Bosch and Johnson Controls, including Hitachi's US$1.4 billion carve-out sale and parallel acquisition of Japanese production and R&D assets. Winner, "M&A Deal of the Year (Premium)", ALB Japan Law Awards 2025.*
Sumitomo Chemical on its sale of 22.5% of the shares in the Saudi exchange-listed Petro Rabigh project.*
A publicly listed Japanese real estate fund specializing in the logistics sector in its expansion into Malaysia, which involved fund structuring, set up of its subsidiaries and SPVs, land acquisition and joint ventures with leading local property developers.*
