Dow Jones Risk Journal | European firms unprepared for EU AML reforms, says new report

White & Case Frankfurt partner Daniel Zapf was recently featured in Dow Jones's Risk Journal, discussing the impacts on European companies in the wake of the EU's new AML regime, which will introduce more harmonized rules for financial institutions from July 2027. With many European companies unprepared for the coming money-laundering overhaul, compliance obligations will increase.
Daniel notes however, that although larger firms are already preparing to implement the new rules, executing these in practice may prove more of a challenge and that data sharing may also be another issue companies face, saying that “another big challenge is information sharing because on the one hand you have the data protection regimes. On the other, the new AML regime requires you to share more data within the group.”
