Global law firm White & Case LLP has expanded its Global Project Development and Finance Practice and Global Energy Industry Group with the addition of Ruta Kalvaitis Skučas as a partner in Washington, DC.
"With firsthand experience at the Federal Regulatory Energy Commission, Ruta is uniquely qualified to advise clients who invest in complex energy and infrastructure projects," said White & Case Chair Heather McDevitt. "Her insights will strengthen our ability to advise clients on their most consequential compliance and enforcement mandates."
Kalvaitis Skučas advises on the US federal and state regulatory aspects of energy matters, including advising power companies, energy traders and transmission and renewables developers on compliance and enforcement issues in electricity, solar, onshore and offshore wind, hydroelectricity and waste-to-energy matters. She brings strong experience advising on matters before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), having spent a significant portion of her career as a lawyer in its Office of the General Counsel.
"Ruta has a proven ability to help clients navigate complex market rules and enforcement risk," said White & Case Co-Head of the Global Energy Industry Group Jay Cuclis. "Her arrival builds on recent investments in our integrated global energy group, and enhances our ability to offer seamless, cross-border advice across the full lifecycle of US power projects."
Kalvaitis Skučas added: "I'm excited to rejoin White & Case at a time of continued investment in its global energy capabilities, which will provide a strong foundation to advise on FERC, RTO and enforcement matters. I look forward to helping clients manage regulatory risk and working with my new colleagues to capitalize on opportunities across the energy value chain."
Kalvaitis Skučas rejoins White & Case from another law firm, where she was a partner. She previously was an associate in White & Case's Washington, DC office from 2000 to 2008.
Kalvaitis Skučas's arrival continues the strategic growth momentum of White & Case's international energy capabilities, which have recently expanded with the addition of partners George Fatula in Washington, DC, Ian Goldberg, Alex Miron and Joshua Teahen in Houston, Serra Tar in London and Peter Trimarchi in New York.
