Overview
Assel is an Associate with Corporate and M&A team at White & Case Astana office. Her main areas of legal practice include corporate and commercial law, real estate, intellectual property, and environmental law.
Assel has transactional experience in representing a broad range of public and private entities, mining and renewable energy projects in all aspects of corporate governance, merger and acquisitions, project financing, restructuring, legal due diligence and regulatory matters.
Experience
Representation of AIIB, EBRD, ICBC and the Green Climate Fund in relation on the project financing for the construction and operation of the 100 MW Zhanatas wind farm in Kazakhstan, the largest of its wind turbines kind in Central Asia. The transaction was awarded "Deal of the Year" for 2021 by China Business Law Journal, and the "Projects & Energy Deal of the Year" by The In-House Community.
Representation of the client in relation to the proposed privatization of major hydropower plants in Kazakhstan. Work includes conducting due diligence, regulatory issues, negotiating transactional documents and terms of privatization, involvement in international aspects of the proposed transaction.
Representation of major mining company in relation to its shift between subsoil use regimes in Kazakhstan and various subsoil use regulatory matters.
Representation of the senior international lenders, EBRD and IFC, in the secured financing of the Almaty International Airport reconstruction for US $450 million. The transaction was named "M&A/Acquisition Finance Deal of the Year" by Bonds, Loans & Sukuk Turkey Awards 2022.
Representation of Kazakhstan major postal service operator owned by the Kazakhstan government, in relation on its M&A related matters, including due diligence. *
