Biography

Claire is a Local Partner in the Firm's EIPAF practice, based in Johannesburg.

She has extensive experience advising sponsors, lenders and contractors in relation to major international projects across a range of sectors. She has notable experience advising on EPC contracts, as well as a range of other construction and project contracts.

She has advised on a broad range of major power and water projects in the UK, Europe, Middle East, Africa, Central Asia and Latin America, with a specific focus on the Middle East, Uzbekistan and anglophone Africa.

Claire has particular experience in the energy sector, having been involved in advising in relation to either the construction, financing or acquisition of a significant number of power projects around the world, and is well versed in the requirements of various types of lenders (including commercial lenders, ECAs, DFIs and alternative investment funds).

Prior to joining White & Case in 2025, Claire spent seven years in another leading projects team in London. Prior to her time in London, she worked in Johannesburg in the projects teams of both another international law firm and a major South African law firm.

Experience

Representation of Masdar in respect of the construction and operation arrangements for the 457MW Sherabad, 220 MW Djizzakh, 220MW Samarkand and 100MW Nur Navoi solar PV projects in Uzbekistan.*

Representation of the lenders in respect of the engineering, procurement, operations, and government project agreements in respect of the 100 MW North Solar PV power project, and the 100MW Riyah 1 and 100MW Riyah 2 wind projects in Oman. *

Representation of Masdar in respect of the construction and operation arrangements for the 500MW Zarafshan wind project in Uzbekistan.*

Representation of the lenders to the ACWA Power lead sponsor in respect of the construction and operation of the 120 MIGD Hassyan seawater reverse osmosis plant Arabian Gulf coast in Dubai. *

Representation of the lenders in respect of the engineering, procurement, operations, and government project agreements in respect of the Jubail 3 seawater RO desalination plant in Saudi Arabia. *

Representation of the sponsors (Marubeni) on the development and financing of the US$1bn reverse osmosis desalination project, including a 160km pipeline and water distribution network supplying Codelco's mining operations. *

Representation of the sponsors in respect of two independent subsea HVDC systems, comprising of transmission cables and onshore and offshore converter stations in Abu Dhabi. *

Representation of both Africa Finance Corporation and Pan African Infrastructure Development Fund on the establishment of Anergi Holdings Limited, a joint venture holding 7 energy generation assets in 5 African countries, with a total of 1,786MW generating capacity. *

Representation of Mubadala and TAQA in respect of the acquisition of a gas-fired power generation plant at the Talimarjan Power Complex in Uzbekistan. *
