Craig Whitley is a partner in our Global Project Development and Finance Practice based in Johannesburg. Craig acts for both local and international banks, as well as borrowers and sponsors, with regard to their funding structures, in particular unsecured and secured lending, project finance, acquisition finance, real estate and development finance, commodities finance, preference share funding and security structuring.
He has been involved in a wide range of projects in various sectors including real estate, mining and metals, infrastructure and power which includes extensive experience acting for both sponsors and lenders under the Department of Energy’s renewable energy IPP programme.
Craig regularly drafts and negotiates on behalf of lenders and borrowers (both under LMA and otherwise) across a wide range of cross-border financing transactions.
Prior to joining White & Case, Craig was a partner at a leading South African law firm.

Craig advised Nedbank Capital, a division of Nedbank Limited and Absa Capital, a division of Absa Bank Limited and Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation Europe Limited, on the provision of an ECA-backed project financing facility to Dorper Wind Farm (RF) Proprietary Limited, relating to the construction, development, operation and maintenance of the 100MW Dorper Wind Farm under the South African Department of Energy's Renewable Energy IPP Procurement Programme. This deal was named "African Wind Deal of the Year" at Euromoney magazine's Project Finance Awards.

Craig advised the lender on the drafting and finalisation of a ZAR 900 million revolving loan facility agreement, for a multinational cement producer's general corporate purposes.
