Julien Hislaire
Biography
Overview
Julien is an associate in the BeLux Transactional practice group of the Brussels office, focusing on dispute resolution and arbitration.
He has strong experience in international dispute resolution, national and international arbitration, and complex commercial disputes. He represents domestic and cross-border clients, focusing on the following core areas: complex international civil, corporate and commercial disputes, international arbitration and insolvency proceedings. Julien's practice also involves advising on human rights issues.
Julien graduated magna cum laude from the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB). He combined two undergraduate degrees (Law and Political Science) and graduated in Social Science and Humanities from Queen Mary University of London.
Prior to joining White & Case, Julien worked at a renowned Belgian law firm and became a teaching assistant at ULB, where he taught Private International Law. He then earned an LLM from New York University School of Law, where he specialized in international law.
Experience
Relevant experience, prior to joining the Firm, includes:
Assisting Yukos Universal Ltd. (YUL) in enforcing a USD 50 billion Energy Charter Treaty award against Russia in Belgium; and
Representing an international insurance group against PDVSA, the Venezuelan state-owned oil and natural gas company, in an ICC arbitration in Paris.
