His track record and reputation have attracted a client portfolio of major domestic and international corporates including Allianz AG, a major German insurance company, RWE Gas, a leading German utilities provider, and NAY Holding, a large consumer electronics retail chain in Slovakia.
Since joining White & Case in 2000, Juraj has worked on numerous major M&A projects, and has significant experience in greenfield investments for clients such as PSA Peugeot Citroen, as well as Visteon Corporation, a global automotive company, and Johnson Controls, a US-based multinational producer of automotive interiors and batteries.
The Slovak Republic has sought out Juraj's knowledge and insight regarding a number of matters, including the issue of two series of Samurai bonds in 2013, and the privatizations of Transpetrol, Všeobecná úverová banka and Slovenská sporiteľňa.
Juraj also acts as one of the managing lawyers in the Bratislava office's corporate practice, which, according to Chambers Europe 2014, has attracted "some of the most eye-catching transactions in the market with strong experience in a wide range of areas, from cross-border deals to privatisations."
He is also a member of White & Case's Global Employment & Benefits team. He is widely recognized among peers as a leading employment lawyer. Among others, he has been described as a "brilliant, solution-oriented" employment practitioner, who is respected for his employment legal prowess.
He is particularly familiar with the employment issues that arise in corporate transactions, such as management buyouts, sales of shares and business interests, asset deals, restructuring of companies in post-merger or post-acquisition situations, and outsourcing. He advises on individual and collective dismissals, outsourcing, including cross-border mandates, immigration law in connection with the cross-border secondment of employees as well as local hiring matters.
Juraj co-led the team which acted as deal counsel on the Slovak Republic's issue of two series of Samurai bonds, denominated in Japanese yen, which have raised JPY 30 billion (approximately US$305.4 million). This was the country's first sale of bonds into the Japanese market in more than 15 years, and was aimed at diversifying the sovereign's financing sources beyond the Euro region. This transaction was intended to create a benchmark for future issues by the Slovak Republic, and was successfully launched despite severe volatility in other markets.
Juraj co-led the team which advised the joint lead managers Československá obchodná banka, a.s. (a member of KBC group), Slovenská sporitelna, a.s. (a member of ERSTE group) and Všeobecná úverová banka, a.s. (a member of Intesa Sanpaolo group) in connection with a €1.25 billion (US$1.7 billion) standalone sovereign bond issue by the Slovak Republic. The transaction represented the Slovak Republic's third bond issue governed by Slovak law, and was primarily placed with foreign investors through a syndicate of managers. The transaction won the Best Sovereign Bond in CEE at the EMEA Finance 2011 Achievement Awards.
Juraj advised Allianz AG, a major German insurance company, on the acquisition of a majority stake in Slovenská poisťovňa, the largest Slovak insurer, from the National Property Fund.
Juraj represented Allianz AG in connection with the merger of its two Slovak subsidiaries – Slovenská poisťovňa and Allianz poisťovňa – and the sale of 15 percent of the shares of Allianz – Slovenská poisťovňa to the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).
Juraj advised the Slovak Republic on the privatizations of Transpetrol, Všeobecná úverová banka and Slovenská sporiteľňa.
Juraj represented NAY Holding, a major consumer electronics retail chain in the Slovak Republic, in connection with the sale of its shareholders' shares to Enterprise Investors.
Juraj advised ArcelorMittal, the world's largest steel company, in connection with the acquisition of OFZ, a major Central European ferroalloy manufacturer based in Slovakia.
Juraj advised SAPA AB, one of the world's leading manufacturers of aluminum profiles, in connection with its acquisition of Alufinal, a major Central European manufacturer engaged in the extrusion and surface treatment of aluminum profiles.
Juraj advised Enterprise Investors, an international private equity fund, on its participation in the international tender for the sale of HAME, a food production group operating mainly in Slovakia, Czech Republic, Russia, Romania and Hungary.
