Biography

Overview

Tara Agoston is a Senior Associate in the disputes team in Sydney. Her practice focuses on commercial disputes, including major infrastructure arbitrations. Tara was based with the White & Case arbitration team in Paris for four years prior to relocating to Sydney where her practice focused on international commercial and investor-state arbitrations. 

Prior to joining White & Case, Tara completed her Masters of Law in Litigation and Dispute Resolution at University College London and gained experience as a solicitor in the commercial practice group of an Australian law firm in Melbourne.

Acting for the Republic of India in its application to resist enforcement of numerous high value Arbitral Awards in relation to certain transactions with a foreign investor in Australia.

Representing a contractor in a pending ICC arbitration concerning a major rail project in the Middle East.

Advising a tenant in a dispute concerning a major construction project in Australia.

Regularly advises clients in relation to risks and potential contraventions of the Australian sanctions regime.

Represented an East Asian energy company in an ICC arbitration concerning an energy project in the Pacific region.  

Represented an Eastern European State in ICC arbitration proceedings relating to a toll road project in Eastern Europe.

Represented affiliates of a West European gas company in a claim under the Energy Charter Treaty against a Central European State.

Represented an Asian construction company in a SIAC arbitration concerning an energy project in South East Asia.

Represented a West European construction company in an ICC arbitration concerning a hydropower project in South America

Represented a Dutch Investor in an investment treaty arbitration pending before ICSID against a Central European State
