Global law firm White & Case LLP won a "Global Impact Law Firm" award from International Senior Lawyers Project at the organization's 25th anniversary gala held in New York City on November 10.
ISLP is a charity whose mission is to advance global development and the rule of law by partnering with law firms to provide pro bono legal advice to low-income governments, civil society and social enterprises.
White & Case has provided pro bono services through ISLP for more than two decades. Some recent projects include:
- Providing support to locally led law reform and capacity-building efforts, including projects for the Nairobi Center for International Arbitration, Kenya's Office of the Attorney General, the Ethiopian Ministry of Justice, the East Africa Law Society Women Lawyers Forum and le Chambre de Conciliation et d'Arbitrage d'Haïti
- Working with the Ecuadorian government and private sector stakeholders to better deliver public-private partnerships as part of ISLP's multi-stakeholder engagement supporting Ecuador's Open Government Partnership National Action Plan
- Advising Malawian social enterprises working to address the health impacts of climate change and expand clean energy access, and delivering training to the Malawi Law Society to enhance banking and finance law capacity to reinforce local legal capacity to support the local ecosystem of social enterprises
