Semafor | Lobbyists go to work for Canada tariff carveouts

In an article for Semafor, White & Case Global International Trade head David Bond discussed the potential escalation of US tariffs on Canada and Canada's targeted retaliatory measures.

David predicted that US officials could increase tariffs already in effect rather than expand their scope to additional products. He also noted that Canada's tariffs may disproportionately affect politically competitive states, including Wisconsin and Maine.

David also described potential Canadian surcharges on electricity exports as a "nuclear option" for the country, explaining that the threat of imposing such measures may have greater strategic value than using them.
