Overview

Dr. Ashwin Sivakumar is a technical advisor in the Intellectual Property group in the firm's Boston office. His work involves patent prosecution in the field of biotechnology, biomedical engineering, medical devices, and life sciences.

Prior to joining White & Case, Ashwin was a Technical Specialist at a Boston area law firm where he developed experience in IP matters involving patent prosecution, pre-litigation patent assessments, IP due diligence and freedom to operate analysis in the field of biotechnology, biomedical engineering, medical devices, and life sciences.

Ashwin received his M.S. and Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from Tulane University in New Orleans. His research was focused on the creation of an engineered 'nerve-on-a-chip' model that can act as a testing platform for pharmacological and pathological testing using electrophysiological testing. Ashwin also co-founded and ran a startup, Flux Diagnostics LLC, which was focused on the creation of handheld rapid diagnostics devices for viral testing. He has authored and presented scientific publications in the fields of neuroscience, tissue engineering and biomedical engineering. He is the recipient of multiple awards that include the NSF I-Corps Award for Market Research (2016). Victor C. Alvarez Spark Innovation Award (2015), and New Day Challenge Innovation Award (2015)
