Bob Li

Bob Li is an Associate in the Firm's Global White Collar Practice Group.

He focuses on anti-corruption investigation, cross-border litigation, regulatory and compliance matters, including data privacy and protection matters. He represents multinational companies and provides compliance advice to corporate clients that may be subject to internal investigations and enforcement actions by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), U.S. Department of Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) and other governmental agencies.

Prior to joining the Firm, Bob worked at other law firms in Shanghai and Chicago, where he advised clients on cross-border litigation and government investigation matters. He is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association and passed the Chinese bar examination in 2013.

White Collar / Investigation / Litigation

  • Advised a U.S. energy service company in an internal investigation into allegations of employee misconduct including allegations of unfair treatment and breach of internal data privacy policies. *
  • Advised a Chinese financial institution in a matter relating to a significant U.S. government investigation. *
  • Represented a U.S. design company in an internal investigation into anonymous allegations regarding the management and operations of the client's Chinese factory, including issues of conflicts-of-interest and corruption. *
  • Represented an international power management company in an internal investigation into the conduct of a China-based employee, including allegations of corruption and self-dealing in connection with a state-owned end-customer.*
  • Advised a global energy equipment manufacturer in an investigation into allegations of trade secret theft in its Latin America and China operations. *
  • Advised a major U.S. technology company in a Shanghai-seated arbitration arising out of a series of consulting and technology agreements in Mainland China. *
  • Advised a logistics company in a civil tort dispute in federal court. The plaintiff alleged the carrier was tortiously liable for the transportation of substances that harmed the plaintiff.*
  • Represented a multinational healthcare company in a dispute with a former joint venture partner accused of misappropriating a competitor's trade secrets, as well as in a related DOJ investigation.*
  • Advised a leading medical provider in its acquisition of a global provider of infection prevention products and services primarily to endoscopy and dental customers, for $3.6 billion. *

Data Privacy and Protection

  • Advised a multinational company on cross-border data transfer matters pursuant to data security and protection laws in various jurisdictions.
  • Advising several e-commerce and Internet companies on privacy, data transfer and data protection matters pursuant to China's Personal Information Protection Law (effective on November 1, 2021).
  • Advised an educational service provider in its acquisition of a provider of secure, verified in person interviews and Spoken English Evaluations worldwide. *
