Biography

John is an associate in the Project Development and Finance Group in the Firm's Houston office. His practice focuses on project development and finance, strategic joint ventures and investments, commercial contracts, commodities trading transactions for upstream, midstream and downstream oil & gas, liquefied natural gas (LNG), petrochemicals/chemicals, electric power, renewable energy and other energy and infrastructure projects on a worldwide basis.

Before attending law school, John served in the United States Army as an Armor Officer and paratrooper, attaining the rank of Captain in three years. During his military service, John deployed to Afghanistan as a Reconnaissance Platoon Leader in support of Operation Resolute Support to provide the Afghan National Army with training and consultation on a variety of security matters.

John is also an avid mountaineer and has completed various summits, including Mount Kilimanjaro (Tanzania, 19,341'), Aconcagua (Argentina, 22,837') and Mount Elbrus (Russian Federation, 18,510').

  • EOG Resources in its acquisition of a roughly 900,000 acre unconventional exploration concession in Abu Dhabi — the first concession of its kind granted to a U.S. company, including the negotiation of 25 project contracts.
  • SCG Chemicals, a market leading petrochemical producer in Asia, with a 15-year liquified ethane feedstock agreement and long term charterparties for 5 VLECs to transport products from the US to Asia.
  • International energy company on its potential offtake, joint venture arrangements and equity investment in Port Arthur LNG Phase 2.
  • International energy company on its potential offtake, joint venture arrangements and equity investment in Rio Grande LNG.
  • Leading global oil & gas company in connection with three long-term offtake arrangements, comprising an LNG SPA to purchase LNG from Phase 2 of Venture Global's Calcasieu Pass Project, an LNG SPA to purchase LNG from Venture Global's US Gulf Coast portfolio and an LNG SPA to purchase LNG from Train 5 of NextDecade's Rio Grande LNG project.

Power & Renewables

  • Avantus, a portfolio company of KKR, in the ongoing development, construction, financing (including construction and tax equity) and divestitures of their solar and battery storage projects throughout California, Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada, Utah and Texas.
  • Avantus, a portfolio company of KKR, in all ongoing development, construction and financing (including both construction and tax equity) of the 530 MW Aratina Phase I PV solar array and battery storage project in California.
  • Advising a PE-backed project developer on all aspects of its renewable energy projects across the US and various ISOs, including drafting and negotiating power purchase, shared facilities and energy management agreements.
  • A large integrated energy company in the development of carbon capture and storage facilities to capture, transport and store CO2 emitted from one of the company's large-scale refinery off-gas treatment and fractionation plants.
