Mengbi Xu is an associate in White & Case's Asia Debt Finance group, based in Beijing. Mengbi regularly represents Chinese banks and international financial institutions in inbound and outbound cross-border secured and unsecured financing transactions. She also has experience in general corporate matters.
Mengbi's experience includes a secondment as an internal legal counsel at the Beijing office of an international financial institution headquartered in Washington DC.
Advised China Construction Bank Corporation as mandated lead arranger, bookrunner, agent and security agent on an aggregate US$700 million syndicated senior secured facilities for BHR Newwood Investment Management Limited and China Molybdenum Co., Ltd. to finance their acquisition from Lundin Corporation of its indirect minority equity interest in Tenke Fungurume Mining Complex, a world class copper and cobalt mine located in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Advised Industrial and Commercial Bank of China and Bank of China on a €550 million syndicated senior secured term acquisition financing for Fosun International in connection with its approximately €1 billion majority acquisition of insurance assets of Portuguese state-owned Caixa Geral de Depositos, one of the largest acquisitions by a Chinese non-state owned entity and Fosun's largest acquisition outside China. The deal was awarded "Deal of the Year" for 2014 by China Business Law Journal.
Advised China Development Bank Corporation on providing financing to Rue Beltelecom, a telecommunications company in the Republic of Belarus.
Advised China Development Bank Corporation on a secured vendor financing to Zimbabwe's Econet Wireless (Private) Limited to finance up to 85 percent of its telecommunications equipment and services contracts with ZTE Corporation.
Advised China Development Bank Corporation on a US$3 billion senior term financing provided to Petrobras Global Trading B.V., the semi-public Brazilian multinational energy corporation incorporated in The Netherlands, with a guarantee provided by its ultimate parent company, Petróleo Brasileiro S.A. - Petrobras, a publicly listed oil and natural gas company incorporated in Brazil.
Advised the private equity arm of an Asian bank on a mezzanine loan to a Chinese company, following its management buyout.
