Vee Vian Thien
Vee Vian is an associate in White & Case's International Arbitration group based in London, and her experience includes both commercial arbitration and investment treaty arbitration. She has acted in arbitrations held under a variety of rules (ICC, LCIA, UNCITRAL, SIAC, HKIAC, JCAA and ICSID, in particular the ICC and SIAC emergency arbitrator provisions) in Singapore, London, Japan and Hong Kong. Her experience includes representing clients, both states and companies, in Asia and Europe across a wide array of business sectors, including oil & gas, energy, construction, automobile manufacturing, biotechnology, real estate development and medical software. Vee Vian also has experience of litigation before the English, Indian and Singapore courts, including anti-suit injunctions in support of arbitration and enforcement of emergency orders, interim relief and arbitral awards.
In addition, Vee Vian has a wide range of restructuring, insolvency and finance experience advising creditors, in particular financial institutions, on recovery and enforcement rights in both consensual restructurings and contentious insolvencies in Hong Kong, India, Singapore, the UAE and the UK. She was the International Chamber of Commerce Young Arbitrator Forum Regional Chapter Representative for Hong Kong from 2017-2019 and joined White & Case in 2019 from another leading international law firm.
Vee Vian regularly speaks and publishes on international arbitration topics. She has been invited as a speaker at events hosted by UNCITRAL, UNESCAP, ICC YAF, Young ICCA, the University of Hong Kong and the Chinese University of Hong Kong, among others.

Acted for Spanish/Canadian operator on dispute with Southeast Asian nation regarding drilling operations in the South China Sea (ICC, Singapore seat and ICSID).*

Represented Philippine energy company in connected disputes regarding geothermal power plant: (i) ICC arbitration seated in Singapore against contractor under Philippine law (emergency arbitrator proceedings); and (ii) against insurance providers (SIAC, Singapore seat).*
Represented a major Japanese automobile manufacturer in JCAA arbitration seated in Tokyo, Japan against former exclusive Saudi distributor under Japanese and Saudi law. Acted for same client in dispute with Indian former joint venture partner under Indian law (ICC, Singapore seat).
