Biography

Wes Hutson is an associate in the firm's National Security and Global International Trade practice groups. He advises clients on the national security aspects of cross-border transactions, with a primary focus on the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS), U.S. foreign direct investment (FDI) regulations, and the emerging U.S. Outbound Investment Security Program (OIP). Wes regularly counsels global investors, private equity sponsors, and multinational corporations on navigating CFIUS reviews and negotiating national security agreements with the U.S. government.

Prior to joining the firm, Wes spent nearly a decade in government, including as a civilian at the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) and as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Navy. Most recently, he was the Deputy Director for Monitoring and Enforcement in DoD's Office of Global Investment and Economic Security, where he oversaw compliance with national security agreements and led enforcement efforts across a variety of regulatory regimes.

During his time in the military, Wes completed tours at the National Security Agency and U.S. Cyber Command, where he gained deep experience in cyber operations and intelligence oversight. Before commissioning into the Navy, he practiced law in the private sector, advising clients on commercial transactions, and served as a law clerk for the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Columbia.

Wes is also active in the firm's pro bono practice, with a particular focus on supporting veterans and first responders.
