On February 19, 2014, the Federal Executive Branch of Mexico submitted to the House of Representatives a bill to issue a new Federal Antitrust Law (Ley Federal de Competencia Económica) (the "Bill") which, if approved, will replace the existing antitrust law effective since 1993. The Bill was submitted as part of the goals under the the National Development Plan 2013 – 2018 (Plan Nacional de Desarrollo 2013 – 2018) to guarantee clear rules to foster the development of the economy.
