Managing change: The role of legal departments
SEMINAR 4 | Tokyo Back-to-Business Program Series 2019
Legal departments in multinational companies operate in an era of rapid change. The role of in-house counsel has both expanded and become more multifaceted. In-house counsel increasingly serve as business advisors, with accountability for the company’s bottom line. At the same time, they must manage the complexity that results from developments, such as the increasing internationalization of Japanese companies and conflicting regulations among countries. In recent years, legal departments in Japan have responded by expanding to scales that would have been unthinkable just ten years ago.
Our panelists will share their experiences as leaders of legal departments in Japan and provide insight into the legal department’s evolving role. This panel will address topics including best practices for managing today’s complex legal and regulatory environment and for building and coordinating expanding teams, often across borders and locations.
