What to expect from state AI bills in wake of the failed moratorium

In an article for Tech Brew, White & Case partner Hope Anderson discussed the anticipated acceleration in the development of state-level artificial intelligence legislation due to the lack of congressional policy action.

Hope compared this trend in artificial intelligence legislation to previous actions around digital privacy, saying: "States are accelerating their efforts to regulate AI, and I expect that trend to continue, likely outpacing what we saw with privacy"

Hope also noted that "Unlike privacy laws, which tend to follow a more uniform structure, AI touches such a wide array of sectors that, in addition to comprehensive AI laws, we’re already seeing legislation emerge on everything from automated decision-making to deepfakes and healthcare." She added: "The breadth of use cases likely means we’re going to see a surge in diverse, state-specific laws."
