Global law firm White & Case LLP has expanded its Global Debt Finance Practice with the addition of Eugenio Bernal as a partner in Mexico City.

"Our team in Mexico City is extremely active, advising on some of the market's most high-profile matters, and we expect demand for top-tier legal advice across the Latin American financial sector to continue to grow," said Eric Leicht, Head of White & Case's Global Debt Finance Practice. "Eugenio's arrival adds substantial bank regulatory, restructuring and litigation capabilities to our practice, positioning us to build on our forward momentum in the region."

Bernal brings extensive experience advising Mexico's leading financial institutions and corporates on bank regulatory, restructuring and insolvency, and administrative litigation matters. He was most recently the General Counsel and Secretary of the Board of BBVA Mexico, where he led all of its transactional, corporate, regulatory and litigation matters. He also chaired the Legal Committee of the Mexican Banking Association from 2021 to 2023.

Bernal started his legal career at White & Case, and spent 16 years in the Firm's Mexico City office from 1996 to 2012. He was appointed to the Firm's partnership in 2012.

"White & Case is known as a go-to firm for financial institutions and corporates in Mexico City," said Christian Hansen, Head of White & Case's Latin America Group. "Eugenio's knowledge of the Mexican legal market, and established relationships with key players in the space, will further solidify our position as a leading choice for sophisticated market participants across the full spectrum of deals in the Latin American financial sector. We're delighted to welcome him back to the Firm."

Bernal's arrival follows the recent partner additions of Eduardo Flores Herrera and Narciso Campos Cuevas to the Firm's Mexico City office in September 2022.
