Dr. Detlev Gabel
Detlev is a partner in the Frankfurt office and head of the Firm's EMEA Data, Privacy & Cyber Security Practice. His practice focuses on the areas of data protection and technology law.
Detlev advises multinational clients on a broad range of data protection and data security matters, including European and German data protection law compliance, international data transfers and information governance issues.
In the technology area, he counsels clients on large information technology and business process outsourcing arrangements, cloud-based contracts, software license and development agreements, and digitization initiatives.
He frequently publishes and speaks on topics relating to the aforementioned areas. Notably, he is the co-editor and co-author of a treatise on German data protection law and lectures on data protection law at the University of Oldenburg, Germany, in a course leading to a Master of IT Law.
EU General Data Protection Regulation
Advised numerous clients on the potential impact and the implementation of the EU General Data Protection Regulation.
HR management system
Reviewed the proposed introduction of a group-wide HR management system by a leading manufacturer of wires and cables under the data protection laws of more than 30 countries.
Shared services centers
Advised a leading international consumer goods manufacturer on its establishment of intra-group shared services centers with respect to data protection and employment law-related matters in 25 countries.
Information security policy
Reviewed the information security policies of an international banking group under the legal and regulatory framework of various jurisdictions.
Intra-group personal data transfer
Advised an international energy supplier on the intra-group transfer of personal data including related agreements with employee representatives.
Information technology outsourcing
Represented various clients in connection with the outsourcing of data center and other infrastructure services as well as application management services.
Business process outsourcing
Represented various clients in connection with the outsourcing of business processes such as payment and credit card processing services.
Core banking applications
Represented various German banks in connection with the licensing implementation and maintenance of core banking applications.
License and maintenance agreements
Represented various clients on enterprise license and maintenance agreements with leading software vendors.
