Biography

Overview

Tommaso is a member of the Firm's EU law practice in Brussels and advises clients on all aspects of European, Italian and international antitrust/competition law, with a particular focus on merger control, abuse of dominance investigations and compliance issues.

He has particular experience in cross-border merger control. Tommaso has been involved in several high-profile and complex transactions (including joint ventures and minority shareholding acquisitions) requiring international merger control approvals, both in Europe and around the world.

Tommaso also regularly advises clients in abuse of dominance investigations as well as EU and Italian antitrust/competition law issues relating to horizontal agreements and vertical restraints. He has advised clients in the context of complex Article 102 TFEU investigations both before the European Commission and the Italian Competition Authority.

Tommaso has experience across a broad range of industries, including oil & gas, e-commerce, telecom, pharmaceuticals and semiconductors.

Prior to joining White & Case, Tommaso worked at the Brussels office of an international law firm, where he was involved in a number of high-profile antitrust cases. He also gained experience in intellectual property and antitrust litigation at the Milan office of an international law firm.

  • An international leading manufacturer of PET containers machines, in connection with a proceeding initiated by the Italian Competition Authority for potential breach of abuse of dominant position rules under Article 102 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union.
  • A leading manufacturer of semiconductors in connection with an investigation initiated by the European Commission for potential breach of abuse of dominant position rules under Article 102 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union.
  • An international group active in e-commerce in connection with a proceeding initiated by the Italian Competition Authority for potential breach of abuse of dominance rules under Article 102 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union.

Merger control

  • A manufacturer of laboratory chemicals in connection with a proceeding initiated by the European Commission for the provision of incorrect or misleading information during the Commission's investigation under the EU Merger Regulation.
  • Saudi Arabian Oil Company in connection with the antitrust aspects of its acquisition of a 70% stake in Saudi Basic Industries Corporation, including notification and clearance by the European Commission and 24 other competition authorities.
  • BC Partners in connection with the antitrust aspects of its acquisition of joint control over Industria Macchine Automatiche S.p.A., including notification and clearance by the European Commission and 6 other competition authorities.
  • Takeda Pharmaceuticals International AG in connection with the antitrust aspects of the divestment of different portfolios of over-the-counter and prescription pharmaceutical assets, including notification and clearance by competition authorities in more than 15 jurisdictions.
