‘Deeply disappointed’: Funding industry responds to King’s Speech PACCAR omission

Partner Robert Wheal was recently featured in Law.com International and CDR News, commenting on the UK government's failure to address litigation funding in the King's Speech, which was delivered on 13 May 2026 at the opening of parliament.

Emphasising that the omission leaves critical questions unresolved for funders, claimants and defendants, Robert noted that the absence of legislative reform results in ongoing uncertainty, which "is unhelpful and will not be welcomed by the litigation funding community."

In the CDR News article, Robert noted that the uncertainty caused by the Supreme Court's Paccar Inc. (PACCAR) decision in 2023 risks "undermining the competitiveness of England and Wales as a global hub for commercial litigation and arbitration."
