Biography
Anwar is a litigator who represents clients at various levels of state and federal courts. His main focus has been advising financial institutions and sovereign entities in complex litigations brought under the US Anti-Terrorism Act and Foreign Sovereign Immunities Act (FSIA). Anwar has been a core member of teams supporting clients at various stages of litigation and has extensive experience in high-stakes international disputes, including fact development and strategy, offensive and defensive depositions, and dispositive motions and other court submissions. He has worked directly with clients and witnesses, including at the C-Suite level and with high-ranking government ministers. Anwar is fluent in Arabic and frequently uses his language skills on matters for Middle Eastern clients. Additionally, Anwar regularly litigates Sherman Act claims and also provided investment arbitration advice to sovereigns.
During law school, Anwar was an Articles Editor on the California Law Review and the Berkeley Journal of International Law. Anwar also interned in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York for the Honorable Katherine Polk Failla. Anwar attended the University of Pennsylvania for his undergraduate degree where his thesis in history won the Phi Beta Kappa prize for best thesis in any field of study that year.
Anwar also has extensive experience in different cultures, having lived in 8 cities in 6 countries.
