Biography

Johannes's practice focuses on German and European antitrust law, as well as foreign direct investment (FDI) matters.

He advises on merger control and FDI reviews in complex cross border mergers, abuse of dominance, horizontal and vertical cartel cases, antitrust litigation and general antitrust compliance. He has a profound expertise in a broad range of sectors with a special focus on the telecommunications and IT sectors, as well as regulated industries. In particular, Johannes has structured partnerships and distribution agreements in the area of cloud computing and virtualization services. His deep understanding of business processes and solution-oriented work are great assets to his clients.

Prior to joining White & Case, Johannes worked as an inhouse competition lawyer of a German Fortune 500 company. His career as an attorney started in the cologne office of an international law firm with an antitrust focus. His traineeship included working for law firms and authorities also in New York and Hong Kong.

Advised leading Japanese trading company Toyota Tsusho Corporation (Toyota Tsusho) on its US$1.34 billion acquisition of North American metal recycling and steel manufacturing company Radius Recycling, Inc. (Radius).

Advised Shutterstock on merger agreement with Getty Images Holdings, Inc with a combined enterprise value of US$3.7 billion.

Advised Regnology on the acquisition of the global Finance, Risk & Regulatory Reporting (FRR) unit from Wolters Kluwer.

Advised NMi Group (NMi), a Bridgepoint Group (Bridgepoint) portfolio company, on the acquisition of Phoenix Testlab GmbH (Phoenix Testlab), a leading German testing and certification body specialising in electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), environmental, radio, battery and product safety compliance.

Advised bluu unit GmbH (bluu unit), a portfolio company of Triton Smaller Mid-Cap Fund II, on the acquisition of KKL Holding GmbH (KKL), a leading German company for HVAC solutions.

Advised e-commerce group ABOUT YOU Holding SE on the conclusion of a business combination agreement with online multi-brand fashion retailer Zalando SE and public takeover offer by Zalando.

Advised on antitrust matters in multi-jurisdictional merger control proceedings for the establishment of a joint venture in the automotive industry, "Cofinity-X GmbH," for the operation of a sovereign data space based on the Gaia-X and Catena-X principles

Advised on investment control for the outsourcing of KMD A/S's mainframe business to T-Systems International GmbH in Denmark.

Advised on FDI and merger control for the outsourcing of the operation of Deutsche Telekom IT GmbH's ERP systems to Accenture PLC.
