Biography
Matthew is an Associate in the Firm’s Global Intellectual Property (IP) practice, based in London.
Matthew advises international and UK-based clients across a range of sectors (including media and entertainment, technology, FMCG and financial services) on intellectual property and technology matters in the context of M&A transactions and commercial projects. His practice includes advising on the IP and technology aspects of cross-border M&A transactions, joint ventures, PE investments, complex carve-outs and business separations, and negotiating commercial agreements involving the acquisition, development and licensing of intellectual property, technology and data.
Before joining White & Case, Matthew was an associate at a magic circle law firm in Sydney, Australia. Prior, he trained in a large New Zealand law firm’s intellectual property and technology team.
Experience
Advising CVC Capital Partners on the IP aspects of its acquisition of Animal Nutrition & Health from dsm-firmenich via a carve-out transaction for an enterprise value of €2.2 billion.
Advising Smiths Plc, the UK-based industrial technology company and a member of the FTSE 100, on the IP aspects of its sale of the Smiths Interconnect division to Molex Electronic Technologies Holdings, LLC for an enterprise value of £1.3 billion.
Advising Alinta Energy on the IP and separation aspects of its sale of generation assets in the Pilbara to APA Group for circa AUD $1.7 billion.*
Advising Asahi Australia on an AUD $200 million digital transformation program engaging multiple strategic technology vendors as part of an enterprise IT consolidation and hybrid cloud strategy.*
Advising Insignia Financial, the ASX listed superannuation and financial services provider, on the business process outsourcing of its Master Trust business to SS&C Technologies.*
Advising Dexus on the IP and separation aspects of its acquisition of AMP Capital’s Australian real estate and infrastructure platform, which had funds under management of circa AUD $28 billion.*
Advising Pacific Equity Partners on the IP aspects of its acquisition of Healthia Limited by scheme of arrangement for circa AUD $360 million.*
