Lawyers from every office and practice participate in pro bono work; last year, we dedicated more than 122,000 hours  to pro bono legal services.

As a graduate in our Melbourne or Sydney office, you will have unparalleled opportunities to participate in cutting-edge pro bono work on the issues that matter to you.

Recent Australia pro bono matters include:

• Advising on the formation of The ELLA Foundation Pty Ltd, which is an organisation that creates pathways for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children into competitive dance. We are also assisting The ELLA Foundation with its application to obtain deductible gift receipt (DGR) tax status as an Australian registered cultural organisation
• Participating in Justice Connect's Domestic Building Legal Service clinics to assist low and middle income earners with resolving domestic building disputes, including representing clients at mediation in the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal
• Working with Justice Connect to assist NSW and Victorian flood survivors with legal advice in the aftermath of the floods that destroyed many homes and businesses
• Supporting BABSEACLE to run legal training in Laos, Myanmar and other countries across Southeast Asia; 
• Assisting PonyUp For Good Pty Ltd, a social enterprise that offers e-waste services to businesses, with recertifying as a social enterprise and amending its governing documents, specifically, the constitution and shareholder agreement

In 2020, White & Case also adopted its first Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP). We recognize the importance of reconciliation to our Firm and to Australia’s future as a nation. 

With this RAP, we commit to enhancing our understanding of the antiquity, diversity and richness of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, the vital contributions they make to contemporary Australian society, and the challenges and barriers that can prevent Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people from achieving their full potential. 

Some of our first RAP initiatives include: 

• Sponsoring an Australian First Nations student through the Yalari program
• Participating in the Jawun program to support indigenous organisations through secondments of White & Case associates and business services team members to the West Kimberley
• Providing pro bono services to First Nations–led organizations through Justice Connect and LawHelp

Our RAP will contribute to raising awareness of these matters within our Firm and the broader community, including our overseas clients who do business in Australia.
