Global law firm White & Case LLP partner Joshua Siaw MBE has been appointed co-chair of the UK government's Africa Investors Group (AIG). The advisory council was established by the government following the historic trade mission to Africa in 2018 by then Prime Minister Theresa May to facilitate increased trade and investment between the UK and Africa.

Siaw will Co-Chair the AIG alongside His Majesty's Trade Commissioner for Africa John Humphrey. The AIG is made up of a select group of leading UK businesses with significant investments and interests in Africa including Vodafone, Unilever, Diageo, Anglo American, Standard Chartered Bank and BP, among others.

Siaw, a partner in White & Case's Global Debt Finance Practice and director of the Firm's Africa Practice, said: "I am delighted to have the opportunity to contribute to the UK's approach towards Africa. The private sector has a huge role to play in representing Britain and consolidating and extending the UK's position on the continent. I look forward to deploying my experience advising corporates, governments and financial institutions on cross-border transactions in Africa, as well as the firm's significant expertise, to support the work of the AIG."

Dipen Sabharwal, White & Case Office Executive Partner in London, said: "We are delighted with Josh's new appointment as co-chair of AIG. White & Case has been advising clients in Africa for more than 40 years. This experience combined with Josh's knowledge and expertise will be an invaluable asset to the continued success of the AIG."

In 2018, Siaw was selected as the only lawyer to join Prime Minister Theresa May on her trade mission to Africa. In 2019, he was appointed MBE by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in recognition of his services to the law, UK legal services and his contribution to UK trade and investment in Africa. In 2023, Siaw was named, for the eighth consecutive year, among Britain's 100 most influential Black people by the Powerlist.
