Veronica Pinotti Joins White & Case as a Partner

Global law firm White & Case LLP announced today that Veronica Pinotti has joined the Firm's Global Antitrust/Competition Practice as a partner in its Milan office.

"Follow-on damages claims are becoming an increasing feature of the Italian legal landscape, as well as the rest of Europe, due to the implementation of the EU's antitrust damages directive," said White & Case partner Mark Gidley, who heads the Firm's Global Antitrust/Competition Practice. "Given the current regulatory and political climate, Veronica's addition gives White & Case on-the-ground capabilities before the Italian competition authority, which is one of the most active in Europe, and before the Italian courts, strengthening our effectiveness with a talented advocate."

Pinotti, formerly the head of the Italian EU Competition and Regulatory Practice at McDermott Will & Emery, has more than 20 years of experience advising European and international clients before the European Commission (EC) and national competition regulatory authorities, as well as civil and administrative courts.

"Veronica's arrival expands our competition platform in Europe, and gives us a highly regarded antitrust professional in one of the region's key financial centers," said partner Mark Powell, Regional Section Head, EMEA Competition. "She will work closely with our competition practice in Brussels and the rest of Europe, as well as with our US competition law teams."

Pinotti provides strategic advice on the feasibility and authorization of complex joint ventures and mergers and acquisitions. Clients have come to depend on her to bring her technical skills and creativity to develop tailor-made solutions, coordinating with advisors in various jurisdictions who are involved in international transactions.

"Adding antitrust capabilities in our Milan office complements the Firm's extensive Global Antitrust and Competition Practice," said Oliver Brettle, a member of the Firm's Executive Committee. "Veronica has a strong understanding of the competition issues various industries are facing in Italy and throughout the EU."

Drawing on her extensive experience, Pinotti has handled issues involving private cartels, monopolization, EU state aid rules, and antitrust audits and risk assessments of potential antitrust liabilities within judicial proceedings. She also assists clients on consumer protection, unfair competition and misleading advertising matters.

"We look forward to having Veronica join the Milan office," said Michael Immordino, Executive Partner of White & Case's Milan office. "It is important for our Italian and cross-border practice in Milan to be in a position to offer antitrust and competition services to our corporate and M&A clients."

Prior to moving into private practice, Pinotti trained with the Directorate-General in charge of competition and merger control at the EC.
