Global law firm White & Case LLP has advised RSJ Investments on the establishment of a joint venture between RSJ PE SICAV a.s. and Second Foundation Commodities a.s.
The joint venture, RSJ SF Czech Republic s.r.o., is launching a new sub-fund, RSJ PE SF Batteries podfond, designed to pool capital and support investments in battery projects across international markets.
The new BESS (battery energy storage system) fund will launch with approximately €100 million in committed capital, contributed equally by RSJ Investments and Second Foundation. It is preparing projects across several EU jurisdictions, including the Czech Republic, Germany and Finland, as well as in Japan, where Second Foundation already operates. Its first 10.4 MW battery facility in Germany is online, with a further 250 MW under construction. The fund is expected to assume 47 MW from Second Foundation's 170 MW German pipeline nearing completion. White & Case is also advising on the related matters, supporting the development and coordination of the fund's international BESS projects.
Czech Republic-based RSJ Investments manages a broad portfolio of investments in the Czech Republic and abroad. It focuses on investments in the construction of residential and office buildings, the acquisition of income-generating real estate and the development of logistics and industrial complexes. A significant share of its managed assets consists of investments in key sectors of the future – companies or funds operating in fields such as technology, IT, healthcare, biotechnology and land and agriculture.
The White & Case team which advised on the transaction was led by partner Petr Pánek and local partner Jana Chwaszcz (both Prague) and included partners Thomas Burmeister, Thyl Haßler (both Düsseldorf) and Timo Airisto (Helsinki), local partner Magda Olyšarová (Prague) and associates Anna Stárková, Jakub Kopáček (both Prague), Selma Lyn Kalkutschke (Düsseldorf), Felix Baumgarten (Frankfurt) and Satu Lindvall (Helsinki).
