White & Case was awarded 'Infrastructure/Energy Team of the Year' at The Lawyer Awards 2011, held at Grosvenor House in London on June, 2011.
White & Case was given the award in recognition of the Firm's work on the ground breaking Nord Stream project - the construction and financing of two 1,220 km subsea offshore gas pipelines that will link Russia and the European Union via the Baltic Sea - and one of the largest project financings brought to the market since the credit crisis began. The project was the first multi-jurisdictional pipeline to be financed since the Russia/Ukraine gas switch-offs in 2006/2008. And, as the first big pan-continental pipeline project to successfully close, it is recognized as the road map for future trans-boundary pipelines.
The sponsors on the project were OAO Gazprom, E.ON Ruhrgas AG, BASF/Wintershall GmbH, N.V. Nederlandse Gasunie and GDF Suez. The total project cost for both pipelines is in the region of €7.4 billion.
The Nord Stream deal spanned over five years and engaged over 100 fee earners across seven jurisdictions and demonstrates the strength and depth across our network.
The White & Case team was led by Jason Kerr, with fellow Project Finance partners Philip Stopford (London), Mark Castillo-Bernaus (London), Kirsti Massie (London), Tom Bartlett (London), Manfred Ungemach (Düsseldorf), Irina Nesvetova and Maxim Kobzev (Moscow), Construction and Engineering partner, Ellis Baker (London) and Brussels Competition partner, Mark Powell.
