White & Case was awarded "Competition Practice Group of the Year" and "Life Sciences Practice Group of the Year" honors from legal publication Law360. These honors are awarded to firms that "came through for their clients in 2014, sealing the big deals and winning the high-stakes suits."
This is the fourth year in a row in which Law360 has awarded White & Case "Competition Group of the Year", and the second year White & Case has been awarded "Life Sciences Group of the Year" recognition.
In awarding White & Case "Competition Group of the Year," Law 360 pointed to work ranging "from winning the dismissal of three separate pay-for-delay class actions to securing antitrust clearance for mega cross-border mergers such as Grupo Bimbo SAB de CV's $1.6 billion acquisition of Canada Bread Co. Ltd." It noted that the practice is "continuing to grow rapidly, riding both a merger wave and a surge in pharmaceutical antitrust cases in the wake of the U.S. Supreme Court's 2013 decision opening the door to pay-for-delay challenges." The publication also pointed to the practice's work for OPEC and for Toshiba in Motorola's $3.5 billion liquid crystal display panel price-fixing case in the Seventh Circuit. The Firm's work on "complex, high-stakes litigation and deals on behalf of major clients such as pharmaceutical giant Pfizer Inc.'s Lipitor antitrust litigation and Zimmer Holding Inc.'s proposed $13.4 billion acquisition of Biomet Inc." earned it "Life Sciences Practice Group of the Year" recognition, according to Law360. In a profile of the practice, Law360 quoted partner Robert Milne as saying, "What we bring to the table…is a real integration of the intellectual property, patent law expertise, and the antitrust expertise."
