British weekly Legal Week has named White & Case Asia-Pacific Head Eric Berg its "Emerging Markets Firm Leader of the Year–International" at its third annual Emerging Markets Awards, announced in Singapore.
Award judges agreed that Berg has "taken White & Case's Southeast Asia practice further," according to Legal Week. "Soon after Berg's appointment took effect," Legal Week reported, "White & Case was granted a four-year extension of its Qualifying Foreign Law Practice license in Singapore. In May 2016, the firm struck up a new alliance in Indonesia with Jakarta-based firm Witara Cakra Advocates. Under his leadership, this year, White & Case also managed to expand the project finance practice—a core strength of the US firm's Southeast Asia operations—to Australia."
Berg is head of White & Case's Asia-Pacific region, and head of the Firm's Global Banking Practice. Berg's practice covers a broad range of finance matters, with a particular focus on the representation of lenders, sponsors and corporate borrowers in complex domestic and international finance transactions. He advises on all aspects of the structuring, negotiation and documentation of deals, including the structuring of financings to take into account the legal requirements of the relevant jurisdictions and to maximize tax efficiencies in cross-border transactions. Berg serves as a member of the Firm's Strategic Growth Council and Global Clients Council, and previously served on the Firm's Management Board.
