Global law firm White & Case LLP has advised Revera Energy on the successful non-recourse senior debt financing for the 200MW / 400MWh Windyhill Battery Energy Storage System in Scotland.

White & Case represented Revera Energy, a global independent energy infrastructure solutions platform backed by global investment firm Carlyle, as borrower's counsel on the non-recourse senior debt financing provided by Santander for the construction of the Windyhill BESS. The project is strategically located in Bearsden, approximately 10km north-west of Glasgow, and north of the B6 boundary, one of the UK's most persistent power grid bottlenecks.

"Windyhill represents an important step in strengthening the UK's energy infrastructure and accelerating the deployment of large-scale battery storage. This transaction highlights our continued role advising on complex, first-of-a-kind energy transition financings across Europe," said White & Case partner Carina Radford, who led the Firm's deal team.

This transaction marks a significant milestone for Revera Energy's UK battery energy storage portfolio. Concurrently with financing, Revera issued a notice to proceed, with construction commencing immediately and commercial operations expected in Q1 2028.

Windyhill BESS is the first of three UK battery storage projects in Revera's portfolio to reach financial close. Revera has a further 800MW / 1,600MWh of UK BESS projects, with construction expected to commence over the next 12 months. At 1,000MW, Revera's UK BESS portfolio will become one of the largest battery storage platforms in Europe. It will support the UK's 2030 Net Zero ambitions, enhance grid resilience and help alleviate a key transmission constraint separating wind generation in Scotland from electricity demand in England.

The White & Case team advising Revera was led by partner Carina Radford and counsel Miles Tonkin and supported by associates Zsofia Chabrier and Bethany Carter (all London). Counsel Lis Blunsdon (London) advised on regulatory aspects, partner Anthony Colegrave, counsel Phillan Amin and associate Celine Ng (all London) advised on hedging and partner Will Lund and associate Alec Buchanan (both London) advised on tax aspects of the transaction.
