Global law firm White & Case LLP has advised Baltic Gas Chemical Company (BGCC) on a methanol plant project in Ust-Luga, an industrial port in Russia's Leningrad region.

"Given the challenging current environment, this is an important deal for the Russian market and the White & Case team worked with strong companies and investors to help them achieve their business goals," said Moscow-based local partner Nikolay Feoktistov, who co-led the Firm's deal team. "The deal underlines the strength of the White & Case construction team, even in uncertain market conditions."

BGCC is the initiator and operator of the methanol plant project. White & Case advised BGCC on the license agreement for the production of methanol that was signed with Haldor Topsoe AS and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Engineering on May 25, 2018 at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

The project consists of the construction of a world-scale methanol plant from natural gas with a capacity of 1.7 million tonnes per annum, and a sea export terminal in Ust-Luga. The enterprise is due to be launched during 2023.

The White & Case team which advised on the transaction was co-led by local partner Nikolay Feoktistov (Moscow) and counsel Daria Plotnikova (Moscow), and included partner Jean Shimotake (New York).
