Global law firm White & Case LLP has advised PayClip, one of Mexico's leading digital payments and point-of-sale technology companies, on a strategic transaction with Ant Group, one of the world’s largest digital financial services providers.
The transaction brings together two complementary leaders in digital financial services—PayClip, which has established an agile, user-friendly and innovative payments platform with deep acceptance across Mexico’s merchant ecosystem, and Ant Group, one of the world’s foremost fintech enterprises—to further the development of PayClip's products, which are designed to redefine how consumers and businesses transact in Mexico.
The transaction leverages PayClip's established local infrastructure and merchant relationships with Ant Group's proprietary technological capabilities and global expertise to create a product offering that neither party could have brought to market with the same speed, scale or sophistication independently.
The transaction underscores Mexico's emergence as a primary destination for high-conviction fintech investment and product development, and underscores the central role that strategic combinations between global technology leaders and locally entrenched platforms will play in shaping the next chapter of financial services innovation across Latin America.
White & Case advised on the structuring and execution of the transaction, including corporate, competition and regulatory aspects. The Firm also continues to advise in connection with the regulatory authorization process before Mexico's competition and financial authorities. Subject to applicable authorizations, the transactions with Ant Group will be ultimately completed in parallel to other transactions and steps taken by PayClip toward securing several investments that, taken together, amount to approximately US$500 million.
The PayClip team was led by Mariano Alejo Carranza and included Xavier Casas, Ernesto Talamás, Sarah Zomaya, Christopher Luna and Daniel Bodrato.
The White & Case team in Mexico City was led by M&A partner Henri Capin-Gally and Capital Markets partner Narciso Campos. They were supported by M&A partner Román González and associate Alfonso Suárez; Capital Markets associates Andrés Sánchez and Eduardo Hernández; and Antitrust associate Germán Macías.
