Global law firm White & Case LLP will celebrate 40 years in London on 1 October 2011. The Firm has been acting for clients in matters relating to banking and capital markets, mergers and acquisitions, corporate, dispute resolution and project finance in the City since 1971.
"We recognized early on that to be a truly global law firm, you must be strong in both London and New York," said White & Case Chairman Hugh Verrier. "This continues to be a key element of our global strategy."
"White & Case was one of the first US-headquartered firms to establish an office in London," said Oliver Brettle, executive partner of the London office. "We were also the first US firm to have an English law lawyer in London. English law remains an integral and growing part of the Firm's capabilities globally."
James Hurlock, who went on to become Chairman of the Firm's Management Committee from 1980 to 2000, opened the London office in 1971 with just three people. Today, the London office has nearly 70 partners and almost 300 lawyers serving clients in the UK, throughout Europe and worldwide.
Throughout its history the Firm has built an outstanding reputation in product "firsts" for clients around the world. Earlier this year, the Firm advised on the first euro-clearable international bond denominated in Ukrainian hryvnia and on Nigeria's debut international bond issue.
