Global law firm White & Case LLP today announced that it has joined the Law Firm Sustainability Network (LFSN), a new nonprofit industry group established to promote environmental sustainability across the legal sector.
"White & Case is proud to join our peers and support the LFSN," said Jo Maitland Weiss, White & Case Head of Social Responsibility. "As a Firm we are committed to environmental sustainability, and by working collaboratively with other firms we hope to improve the scale and sophistication of our efforts to reduce our carbon footprint and help preserve the environment."
White & Case has already taken many proactive steps on the sustainability front. Four years ago, the Firm established a global Green Initiative led by a cross-functional committee of facilities managers, representatives from our global technology, knowledge and procurement functions and lawyers. Our Green Initiative seeks to reduce the Firm's carbon footprint through five primary actions: reducing energy consumption, minimizing unnecessary travel, reducing solid waste, recycling where possible and promoting sustainable practices by employees.
The Firm has completed its first Firmwide greenhouse gas emissions assessment in partnership with the CarbonNeutral Company. This past spring, we held our first global Green Campaign, which saw more than 1,000 White & Case lawyers and staff make an online pledge to take one or more personal actions over the next year to reduce our carbon footprint. Other recent activities include a pilot program for paperless invoicing in New York, partnering with Office Max in the US to minimize truck deliveries and participating in an initiative to reduce energy consumption in Johannesburg.
About The Law Firm Sustainability Network
LFSN was founded in August 2011 as an informal platform for law firm professionals to share ideas, network, and develop best practices and industry standards for sustainability in the legal industry. With growing success, the LFSN incorporated in November 2012 and formed its governing body, the Leadership Council, earlier this year. The LFSN is a pending 501c3 nonprofit organization. ecoAnalyze, believed to be the first eco-consulting firm dedicated to the law firm community, provides services and administration to the LFSN.
