White & Case Strengthens Global Funds Practice With Addition of New Partner in London
Global law firm White & Case LLP has strengthened its global funds practice with the addition of new partner Matthew Griffin, who will lead the London investment funds practice.
"We have added Matthew, a dedicated funds partner in London, because of the demands of our rapidly expanding private equity client base in Europe that have followed the arrival at the beginning of 2014 of Ian Bagshaw and Richard Youle, two of Europe's leading private equity lawyers," said White & Case partner John Reiss, global head of the Global Mergers & Acquisitions Practice. "As well as playing an important role in the continuing growth of our private equity business, hiring Matthew supports our already strong global funds practice with dedicated coverage in all the key markets in which our clients operate."
Griffin, who joins the Firm's Global Mergers & Acquisitions Practice and its Investment Funds Group, has experience advising on investment in and formation of funds, as well as fund-related transactions such as secondaries and restructurings, with a particular focus on private equity funds. He joins from Debevoise & Plimpton, where he was international counsel, and brings more than a decade of experience.
"As well as strong technical skills, Matthew has developed significant experience in the investment funds industry and an in-depth knowledge of the market," said partner Jan Matejcek, head of the Firm's EMEA M&A/Corporate section. "He will augment the existing English law and funds capabilities we already offer from the London office and, having worked with clients across EMEA on both investor- and sponsor-side mandates, is an excellent fit with our strategic global platform."
Over the past year White & Case has expanded its EMEA private equity practice with the addition of five new partners. Ian Bagshaw, Richard Youle and Ross Allardice joined the Mergers & Acquisitions group in London, arrivals that have been supported by the recent additions in London of banking partners Colin Harley and Martin Forbes, who have a dedicated focus on private equity sponsors. In addition, equity capital markets partner Inigo Esteve, who joined the London capital markets group during February, is also supporting the private equity team's advice on IPOs.
The addition of these new partners demonstrates the Firm's ongoing commitment to the pursuit of its strategic priorities, which include investing in the growth of the Global Mergers & Acquisitions Practice and Global Capital Markets Practice and strengthening the London and New York offices.
