Global law firm White & Case LLP has achieved a significant success for Demstar Rentals, the Hertz franchisee in Cyprus, before the Cypriot Competition Commission. The Competition Commission accepted the company's complaint against Hermes Airports Ltd, the operator of the Larnaca and Paphos international airports in Cyprus, that was found to have committed an abuse of a dominant position.
The Competition Commission found that Hermes violated the competition rules by imposing unfair terms in the overall treatment of the car rental companies that wished to offer services at the Hermes-operated airports.
"It is an interesting case that sets a precedent deserving of attention across the EU," said White & Case partner Dr Assimakis Komninos. "It is probably the first decision of its kind to deal with the relationship between airports and car rental companies. For us, this represents yet another successful outcome before the Cypriot Competition Commission."
The White & Case team in the Brussels office was led by partner Dr Assimakis Komninos, who was assisted by associate Strati Sakellariou.
White & Case acted alongside local counsel Chrysses Demetriades & Co. LLC.
