Daily Business Review Names White & Case Litigation "Law Firm of the Year"
White & Case was named "Litigation Department of the Year" by Daily Business Review for its work on several significant matters heard before the Florida Supreme Court (FSC).
The Firm represented the Florida State Board of Administration, which consists of Florida’s Governor, Attorney General and Chief Financial Officer, on an appeal before the FSC after a circuit court held that an amendment to the Florida Retirement System requiring public employees to contribute three percent of their gross compensation to the state’s pension system violated the Florida Constitution. In a 4-3 decision, the FSC upheld the legislation thereby circumventing devastating effects on both the state’s present and future budgets.
The Firm also successfully represented Florida Power & Light (FPL), the largest electric utility in Florida, after a public interest group challenged an order of the Florida Public Service Commission allowing FPL to recover more than US$196 million in costs associated with two future nuclear power plants and improvements to four existing plants.
