Global legal market analyst The Legal 500 has named White & Case UK Firm of the Year for Finance in The Legal 500 United Kingdom Awards 2017. This is the second straight year that Legal 500 has named White & Case the top firm in the United Kingdom for finance transactions.

"This is a fantastic achievement and a further validation of our market-leading Capital Markets and Banking practices," says Lee Cullinane, White & Case regional section head for Banking across Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA).

"Having won this for two consecutive years is testament to the team's ability to consistently deliver a top-end and seamless service to our clients; we're very proud of the accolade," says Philippe Herbelin, White & Case regional section head for Capital Markets across Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA).

According to The Legal 500, the awards honor "the best in-house and private practice teams and individuals over the past 12 months…. Over 50,000 interviews were conducted to ascertain the winners."

Notable finance deals led recently by the Firm's London team include:

Cabot Financial Ltd.
White & Case advised Cabot Financial Ltd. on the group's latest debt financing consisting of a £250 million revolving credit facility and £350 million senior secured fixed-rate notes. This is one of the few bank/bond transactions to have reached financial close in the UK market this year and is a fantastic example of White & Case's ability to seamlessly advise on deals that involve complex cross-border legal structures across the bank and bond markets.

Kaupthing Bank
White & Case advised Kaupthing Bank on its winding up proceedings—one of the largest corporate bankruptcies of all time. This was a landmark transaction, spanning several years, involving creditors in more than 100 countries and liabilities of more than US$45 billion. Kaupthing entered into a complex package of measures, including (with the overwhelming approval of creditors) the payment of a stability contribution to the Icelandic state, in order to be granted the exemptions from capital controls, which it needed in order to complete the distribution of its assets to creditors.

White & Case advised J.P. Morgan, UBS and VTB Capital as joint global coordinators and joint bookrunners on a US$250 million secondary offering by ROS AGRO PLC of global depositary receipts (GDRs), listed on the London Stock Exchange and MICEX Stock Exchange. The transaction marks the first London-listed equity capital markets offering by a Russian business since October 2015 and the largest GDR offering on the London Stock Exchange in 2016.

Republic of Mozambique
White & Case is advising the Republic of Mozambique on a complex sovereign restructuring of approximately US$1.9 billion of its external commercial indebtedness. The restructuring concerns a sovereign bond and two state-guaranteed loans. The restructuring discussions are continuing against the background of substantial macroeconomic instability and continuing deterioration in the fundamentals of the economy. This deal is a key example of our market-leading cross-border strengths of our sovereign and restructuring practices and our unrivaled UK/US law capability.
