White & Case has been awarded "Russia & CIS Legal Adviser of the Year" at the European M&A Awards 2011, hosted by the Financial Times and mergermarket.
Moscow partner Eric Michailov accepted the award on behalf of the Firm at the annual event held in London, which acknowledges excellence in corporate, private equity, banking and legal M&A expertise.
With a team of more than 50 Russian and internationally qualified lawyers – including nine partners – White & Case's Russian team, based in Moscow, has solidified its position as one of the best-resourced and skilled M&A teams in the region.
Deals highlighted in the Firm's submission for 2011 included advising: Russia’s third largest oil and gas company, TNK-BP, on its US$1.8 billion acquisition of BP’s pipeline assets in Vietnam and Venezuela; shareholders Standard Bank Group and Troika Dialog Partnership on the sale of Troika Dialog, the oldest and largest private investment bank in the CIS, to Sberbank; the Russian Corporation of Nanotechnologies on its US$700 million investment in Plastic Logic, the leader in emerging field of plastic electronics, to establish a commercial plastic electronics industry in Russia; and VTB Capital on its acquisition of a 47% stake in the White Square business center and a 40% stake in the White Gardens real estate project in Moscow.
In addition to deal-related work, the Firm is committed to the development of the legal community in Russia, from advising on Russian law reform to giving seminars to law students at Moscow universities, supporting a summer internship program for law students and sponsoring the Russian National Rounds of Jessup, the world's largest moot court competition.
