In its "2022 Diversity Snapshot," Law360 has named global law firm White & Case LLP the Number 1 Global Elite US firm, among those with more than 600 attorneys, for its proportion of equity partners identifying as persons of color. ("Global Elite" firms are those listed in Thomson Reuters' Global Elite Law Firm Brand Index of most-trusted law firms.)
Among all firms with more than 600 lawyers, White & Case ranked fourth, with 19 percent of its equity partners identifying as persons of color.
Data for the Snapshot was collected in a survey conducted by Law360 Pulse and augmented by information from the American Bar Association. The Snapshot determined that on average, fewer than 11 percent of equity partners in US law firms identify as persons of color.
In its feature announcing the Snapshot results, Law360 quoted White & Case partner and Vice Chair David Koschik (New York): "White & Case's executive committee meets regularly with practice and regional leaders about their groups' progress on diversity, even down to the granular level of checking in about the career development of individual associates."
Binoy Dharia (New York), chair of White & Case's Global Diversity Committee, told Law360: "A disproportionate level of attrition among women attorneys and attorneys of color is one of the biggest obstacles to improving firm diversity…. There are multiple reasons for that attrition, but one may be the fact that associates may leave if they don't see people who look like them in their firms' partnership and leadership ranks."
Law360 also reported, "White & Case's women's sponsorship program pairs partner sponsors with the firm's female associates to cultivate a gender-balanced pipeline for partnership candidates. In May, the firm began a similar sponsorship program focused on minority associates."
White & Case consistently ranks among the top firms for its commitment to diversity.
